About the Society

The Australia Japan Society of NSW Incorporated (AJS-NSW) was founded in Sydney in 1968. It is a not-for-profit, non-political organization, incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act (ABN: 54 519 437 753).

The co-patrons of the Society are The Premier of New South Wales and The Consul General of Japan, Sydney. The Society has close links with JETAA NSW, The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, The Japanese Society of Sydney and other "Japan-focused" organisations in Sydney and NSW.

AJS-NSW is affiliated with the The National Federation of Australia-Japan Societies, which is the peak body in Australia for the promotion of Australia-Japan cultural, public affairs and educational activities. There are equivalent but independent State Societies and affiliated groups in all major centres in each Australian state. There are also a number of counterpart societies, based in Japan.

The main aim of the Society is to promote common interest and mutual understanding and goodwill between the peoples of Australia and Japan - at all levels. The activities of AJS-NSW in pursuit of these objectives are wide and varied.

The activities of AJS-NSW are funded by membership fees and function activities.

Regular 'Shaberanaito' Language Evenings

The AJS-NSW aims to:

offer interesting and informative Japan-related events to our members and to the general public of NSW
be the central hub of Japan-related activities for Australians who live in and around NSW
be an organisation where anyone interested in Japan is able to find out information about Japan, and make friends with similar interests
cooperate with other organisations with similar objectives both in Sydney and NSW, and in Japan

Board

The Board of Management of AJS-NSW comprises representatives from a broad range of business, government and the community who provide their services on a voluntary basis because they are passionate about the value of the Australia-Japan relationships – between businesses, Governments and people.

The Board comprises a good balance of both Australian and Japanese members.
